Roger Dean Nelson
November 23, 1955 - July 10, 2008
Roger Dean Nelson, 52, of Beloit, WI,
passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 10, 2008 in his
home. Roger was born November 23, 1955 in Beloit, WI, the son
of Roy and Dorothy (Smith) Nelson. He grew up in Beloit and
during his youth was a member of the Beloit Boys Choir. Roger
was a 1974 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School.
He enlisted in the United States Army
after high school, serving in Bad Aibling, Germany as an
intelligence specialist. After returning to Beloit from his
tour of duty, Roger attended the University of Wisconsin - Rock
County and the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Roger married
Brenda Grenawalt on August 21 1983. They had two beautiful
daughters, Jennifer and Jessica. He went to work for the United
States Postal Service. He has been a valuable employee for the
post office in Beloit for nearly thirty years and was looking
forward to retiring. Roger is known for being an excellent cook
and a true animal lover. He was an avid sports fan and
especially loved the Packers and Brewers. Roger was the
Chairman of the annual Postal Stampout Food Drive and Treasurer
of the Beloit Post Office Union. He enjoyed walking in parades
representing the Post Office. Roger was a member of the New
Hope Hawks Dart League and enjoyed playing darts with his
son-in-law, Mike and good friend, John Leusink.
Survivors include his two daughters,
Jennifer (Mike) Allen and Jessica Nelson both of Beloit, WI;
sister, Dawne (Bob) Riegler of Hartford, WI; two brothers,
Dwayne (Elaine) Nelson of Elburn, IL and Rick (Beth) Nelson of
Beloit, WI; three grandchildren, Rachelle, Kendra and Shyenne
Allen; aunts and uncles, Donald and Esther Nelson, Lorraine,
Bes, and Arlene Nelson; many nieces and nephews; one great
niece; several cousins; special friends John Leusink, Patty
Wilke and Jake Richter; and friends at the Beloit Post Office
and from Suds O’Hanahans. He was predeceased by his
parents and son, Andrew.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m.
Tuesday, July 15, 2008 in the Daley Murphy Wisch &
Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd.,
Beloit, WI with Pastor Chris Carlson officiating. Burial will
be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL with
military honors accorded by the V.F.W. Mead-Allen Post #2306.
Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
A memorial will be established in
Roger’s name at a later date.
