Paula Beiter Johnson
April 23, 1955 - November 29, 2008

Paula M. Johnson, 53, of South Beloit, Illinois, died, Saturday, November 29, 2008 surrounded by her family at University Hospitals in Madison, Wisconsin after a short battle with cancer.

The former Paula Marie Beiter was born, April 23, 1955 in Beloit, Wisconsin the daughter of Paul and Peggy (Watson) Beiter. Paula graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1974, and later from Madison Area Technical College with a degree as an accounting clerk. She married Daniel Johnson on November 17, 1989 in Beloit and had previously been married to Michael Ovist.

Paula was employed as a greeter, cashier, and photo processor at Walmart in Beloit. She was a longtime member at Central Christian Church in Beloit, where she was involved in the JOY Group, TLC Group, and MS Group. Paula was very involved in the activities of her grandson. She enjoyed quilting, and volunteering with arts & crafts at various nursing homes. Paula will be remembered for her friendly, outgoing personality, and her love of the color red.

Her survivors include her husband, Daniel Johnson, daughter, Deena Ovist, South Beloit, IL, son and daughter-in-law, Damien and Erin Heckelsmiller, Madison, WI, grandson, Darren Misner, South Beloit, IL, mother, Peggy Beiter, Beloit, WI, four sisters, Sylvia Moore, Yuma, AZ, Cynthia Beiter, Beloit, WI, Rebecca (Jim) Halbach, Hanover, WI, and Carol Beiter, Wisconsin Dells, WI, two brothers, Alfred and Julia Beiter, Rockford, IL, and Tommy Beiter and his girlfriend Lynette Mattson, Beloit, WI, two uncles, Harding Watson, Greeley, CO, and Eddie Watson, Beloit, WI, special friends, Vicky King, and Virginia Simms both of Beloit, WI, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father Paul Beiter, grandmother, Merle Watson, niece, Stephanie N. Beiter, and close friend, Emma Taylor.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2008 at Central Christian Church in Beloit. Visitation is 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Hansen-Gravitt Funeral Home in Beloit, and Friday one hour prior to the service at Central Christian Church. In lieu of plants or flowers memorials may be donated to either Multiple Sclerosis Research or to the American Cancer Society.
